Lackawanna College’s Lake Region Center is the only college in Wayne County to offer bachelor’s degrees. Located in the historic Hawley Silk Mill, the Lake Region Center is a state-of-the-art academic center with traditional degree and certificate programs, business and industry training and continuing education courses. Students can complete most degree programs on-site without having to attend main campus or transfer. Students who spend a minimum of two semesters at the Lake Region Center can complete degree requirements for nearly any other major offered by Lackawanna College at our main campus in Scranton.

Administrative Medical Assistant Career Prep Certification
Administrative Medical Assisting is one of the fastest-growing careers in the health care industry today. The need for professionals that understand how to utilize computerized medical office software and perform administrative office procedures is growing substantially. Physician practices, hospitals, chiropractic practices, and other health care providers all depend on administrative professionals for day-to-day support.
GED-to-Job Ready
This 22-week innovative training program offers students the opportunity to receive an industry-recognized credential while working on the academic coursework of the GED. This provides an opportunity to graduate with two successful completions as well as a jump-start into a high priority occupation.
Management Career Prep with Microsoft Certifications
This 15-week certification program is designed to give each student a strong knowledge of management within the business community. Each student will have a choice of either the Business Management Career Prep track or the Associate Professional in Human Resources track. In addition, each student will be trained and certified in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Massage Therapy
The Lake Region Center is now accepting applications for their Massage Therapy Program. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, massage therapists can earn up to $41,420 per year, and the field is expected to grow by 22% through 2028!
This program is a 720-hour, non-credit program that includes an introduction to massage therapy, anatomy and physiology, bodywork assessment, and more!
Medical Billing and Coding Certification
This 755-hour program will allow the students the training to work in a Medical environment doing Medical Terminology, Billing and Coding. Coursework, taught from the practitioner’s perspective, focuses on skills and coding competencies used in settings such as hospitals and physician practices. This program offers courses with updated curriculum covering the latest coding standards, which recently changed in the United States from the International Classification of Diseases version 9 (ICD-9) to ICD-10 standards. In addition, students will be prepared to take the Certified Coding Associate (CCA) which is an entry-level exam.
MOS 2016 with Spanish for the Workplace
This course prepares students to take the Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access) Suite certification exam(s). Students only need to take one certification exam in order to become a Microsoft Office Specialist.
Spanish for the Workplace is an innovative, self-paced, online occupational Spanish conversation course that seeks to bridge the communication gap between English and Spanish-speaking supervisors and co-workers.
Online Bookkeeping Administration Expert
This accelerated program is designed to give the student a strong knowledge of Bookkeeping procedures that will include tasks related to recording financial transactions, maintaining records, creating statements and tracking customer or client accounts. In addition, students will learn to create companies, work with sales and receivables, payables and purchases, budgets & end-of-period procedures using the QuickBooks Professional software.
Real Estate Pre-Licensing
The Lake Region Center offers a 75-hour program Real Estate Program, as required by the state Real Estate Commission, that prepares students to take the Real Estate Licensing exam. This program is taught by an instructor who is certified by the Real Estate Commission. Students will receive instruction in Real Estate Fundamentals and Real Estate Practices. Both classes are needed in order to sit for the exam.
ServSafe Manager Online with OSHA 10 General Industry Training
The purpose of this online course is to prepare students for the ServSafe Manager exam. The ServSafe program provides food safety training, exams, and educational materials to foodservice managers. The program blends the latest FDA Food Code, food safety research, and years of food sanitation training experience.
The Lake Region Center is conveniently located in the Pocono Mountains in downtown Hawley. Occupying the entire top floor of the historic nineteenth century Hawley Silk Mill, students have access to computer labs, classrooms and lab space. The Center is the only college in Wayne County offering bachelor’s degrees, giving students the option to learn close to home with a short commute.
The Lake Region Center is in a 75,000 square foot lifestyle center filled with shops carrying local foods, furniture, pottery, jewelry, gifts and more. Students can grab a bite at the Cocoon Coffee House or exercise at the fitness center. Restaurants, art galleries and entertainment are just a short drive away in the picturesque downtown nestled in the valley of Lake Wallenpaupack.

The Lackawanna College Sunbury Center has received a $12,500 grant from The 1994 Charles B. Degenstein Foundation that was used to purchase equipment for its new medical lab.
