Thinking Big

Life’s twists and turns… could we have written this global pandemic scenario? Could anyone have imagined that in our lifetime and in this age of technological, and medical advancement that we would be in this situation?

So here we are, a global health crisis, which translates to an economic crisis as well. States issuing ‘stay at home’ directives and record-setting unemployment is making us all a little anxious and unsettled. And while many of us are trying to make sense of our situations, we also have to think about the future. When life begins to get back to normal, how will this crisis reshape our world? What kind of organizations will we come back to?

At the same time, if this crisis has taught us nothing, it’s that we have some opportunities to fix the gaps we clearly see today.  We are seeing those fixes already.  Our spirit as a community and as a nation is booming!

Manufacturing is changing the way they do things, and an everyday citizen’s entrepreneurial mindset is taking shape with people making homemade Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), soap, and hand sanitizer.  Yet there are other exposed problems that need bigger thinking and other solutions.

How do we fix our national supply chain? How do we mobilize disaster relief on a much larger scale? Should we have a broader call to action for a renewed manufacture of goods and services in the US? How will political discourse change or inform federal, state, and local policy? Will this disaster change who and why people run for office?

Bigger thinking doesn’t just happen, it takes training, habit, and education.  If that’s the case, then that means that training and education must change as well.

Do you see the need for education to change? If so, how do you see K-12 and higher education changing as a result of this crisis?
