SCRANTON, PA (November 2, 2022) – Lackawanna College, located in Northeastern Pennsylvania, will provide education and training in cutting-edge, technology-based fields for a regional and national audience in its new Center for Technology Innovation (CTI), launching in fall of 2023. The CTI will offer undergraduate degree programs, corporate training, as well as short term, stackable certificates, to prepare individuals for the jobs of tomorrow in areas such as robotics, electric vehicles/advanced automotive, cybersecurity, and communications technology. The CTI is now accepting enrollment in programs that will lead to careers in industries such as transportation and logistics, warehousing and distribution, industrial automation, and technology and communication.

“Nationwide, the landscape is changing, and as new technologies replace old ways of work, we need a workforce ready to embrace these changes and able to upgrade their skill set to fill the critical mass of jobs expected in the next few decades,” explains Lackawanna College President and Chief Innovation Officer Dr. Jill Murray. “The CTI will prepare highly-trained workers by combining academics and technical, hands-on skill-building so its graduates will be prepared for future-proof careers with long-lasting social and economic impact.”

In addition to the undergraduate suite of programs, the CTI will offer a state of the art corporate training curriculum. Located in one of the most heavily trafficked industrial corridors of the Northeast, the CTI has already attracted the attention of national industry leaders eager to develop a preferred corporate training site in such a convenient location. The CTI has established sponsorships and partnerships with multiple national and regional employers and industry leaders and will offer both structured and customizable training options.

The CTI will feature a suite of current and future programs, including:

  • Robotics and Integrated Technologies (offered fall 2023)
  • Electric Vehicle & Advanced Automotive Technologies (offered fall 2023)
  • Cybersecurity with an emphasis on industrial technology (offered fall 2023)
  • Communication Technologies, including Virtual Reality and Artificial Intelligence
  • Future-Focused Analytics
  • Emerging Energy Technologies

“The CTI will help fill critical workforce gaps by offering opportunities for traditional college aged students to enter emerging fields, as well as short term uptraining programs designed to help current workers advance in rapidly changing industries,” explains Murray. “We know that transportation, energy, communications, automation, and logistics careers will grow exponentially in the near future, and the CTI will help individuals of various ages and backgrounds become workforce ready”.

Beginning in the fall of 2024, the CTI will be based at a 90,000-square-foot facility in Scranton, PA, located two hours from the major cities of New York, New Jersey, and Philadelphia, and just 15 minutes from a commercial airport, in a region ripe with tourist attractions and a vibrant restaurant, educational, and cultural scene.
