President Mark Volk Issues Letter to Students and Families, Semester to be Completed Online
Lackawanna College President Mark Volk announced today that course instruction will continue online through the end of the semester amid coronavirus concerns:
Dear Students and Families:
The Center for Disease Control has issued guidance asking that businesses consider curtailing operations for the next 8-weeks to slow the spread of Covid-19. For the health and safety of everyone in the College Community, we have decided that we will complete the remainder of the Spring 2020 semester through online classes. You will be able to access your courses through the Canvas platform. As a reminder, subterm 2 online courses begin today as scheduled.
Also, all activities and events are postponed through the rest of the semester including Honors Convocation and Commencement. We will provide more information to you over the coming weeks as schedules and circumstances allow.
Over the next few days, the College will transition to its plan for employees to work from home. Offices and computer labs will be closed, but know that the College is running business as usual in a remote setting.
Faculty and staff are working and will be available during this time. Student support services such as student wellness and tutoring are available on Starfish. The College’s normal phone numbers will remain active and people will be available to assist you, as necessary.
We realize that resident students still have personal items in residence halls, and we will be following up with a plan on when and how these items can be retrieved. Students should not return to the residence halls until this plan is in place. Also, we realize that there are many questions about fiscal reimbursements and we will follow up when we have more information.
I understand that these changes are stressful and challenging. Please know that we care about you, and faculty and staff will be checking in with you often. We will all work diligently to ensure that we are doing everything in our power to give you a positive educational experience. We will be as flexible as the Department of Education allows us to be.
Your health and safety, as well as that of our entire community, is our top priority, and we will continue to communicate with you if there are any updates.
Please encourage your families and anyone else interested in the latest information from Lackawanna College to visit lackawanna.edu/coronavirus. You can also check the Portal for the most up-to-date information and for answers to many of your questions.
Respectfully,
