Monday, April 20, 2020
President Mark Volk announces room and board adjustments, equating to 8 weeks’ worth of the semester’s room and board charges, will be credited to student accounts today.
Dear Students and Families,
I want to thank you for your patience, dedication and adaptability during this time of so much change. Everyone at Lackawanna College applauds your hard work throughout this difficult situation.
As you may have read, several weeks ago Congress passed the “Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act” or the “CARES Act.” In this bill, it set aside resources to give some form of emergency economic relief to higher education institutions and their students. We are working closely with our Members of Congress and their staffs as we await guidance on how the College can legally and equitably disburse these funds. We hope to have that guidance in the next few weeks and will provide additional information about potential opportunities for our students as soon as we can.
I know many of our resident students have had questions for the College about room and board adjustments due to the disruption of the spring semester from the coronavirus pandemic. I am happy to announce that those adjustments, equating to 8 weeks’ worth of the semester’s room and board charges, will be credited to student accounts today. Because of the State-imposed closure and safety restrictions, we anticipate having refund checks completed on Wednesday and then mailed that day. Please note that if you still have a balance due, the adjustment will be credited against that balance.
These have been trying times and I am so proud of how our faculty, staff and students have come together to adjust as smoothly as possible to working from home and learning and studying remotely.
Even though we are physically apart, everyone at Lackawanna College is here for you and wants to see you succeed as you continue to work toward your goals. The many changes and uncertainty over the past few weeks are a lot to handle. Do not hesitate to reach out to us and take advantage of our resources if we can help you with anything.
