Federal Grants
Pell Grant
The Federal Pell Grant award amount depends on your Student Aid Index (SAI), cost of attendance, enrollment status, and whether you plan to be enrolled for the full academic year or for one semester/term. Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid FAFSA each academic year in order for an SAI to be calculated.
Deadline: Students can submit the FAFSA anytime during their period of enrollment for Pell Grant consideration as determined by Federal Student Aid (FSA). In general, it is recommended that the FAFSA be submitted once the application is open, prior to the beginning of the academic year for which you are applying. Students planning to be enrolled for the 2026-2027 academic year (Fall 2026, Spring 2027, or Summer 2027) must complete the 2026-2027 FAFSA. For the 2026-2027 academic year, the FAFSA will be available on October 1st.
Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG) is available to students with exceptional need and is awarded as part of the total financial aid package. Application is made to the College by submitting the FAFSA for the academic year.
Pennsylvania State Grants
Pennsylvania State Grants are available to students in associate and bachelor degree programs who are taking at least six credits (half-time enrollment for a minimum of 15 weeks.
The FAFSA must be filed for each academic year to qualify. Students must be a Pennsylvania resident in order to receive any Pennsylvania State Grant, and maintain satisfactory academic progress to be considered for a subsequent year. Students can review full eligibly and residency requirements on www.pheaa.org.
There is a limit on the number of remedial credits and repeat coursework allowed for the PA State Grant. Students must be enrolled at least half time in an eligible program from the beginning of the semester until the end (15 weeks) to maintain eligibility. Award is subject to an adjustment is a student fails to meet eligibility requirements.
Veterans are eligible to apply for the Pennsylvania State Grant and are given preference. Income is generally not considered when determining veterans’ awards.
Deadline: May 1st for returning and transfer students, and August 1st for first-time freshman.
Grow PA Grant Program
Support for the PA Workforce
Communities across the Commonwealth have experienced the growing crisis of a declining workforce within certain in-demand occupations. The Pennsylvania General Assembly established the Grow PA Grant Program in 2024 to help build the workforce in PA.
Eligibility
To be considered for the Grow PA Grant Program, you must:
- File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®️).
- Be a current resident of Pennsylvania.
- Meet satisfactory academic progress for Title IV financial aid.
- Have not earned a bachelor’s degree.
- Be enrolled at least half-time in an eligible associate or bachelor’s degree program at an approved Pennsylvania institution.
- This degree must lead to a job in an in-demand occupation as determined by PHEAA.
- Sign a Master Promissory Note (MPN) agreeing to repay all funds received if the work requirement is not met, including any potential interest accrued.

Reciprocal State Grant and Scholarship Information
Application Process
In order to be to qualify for the grants/scholarships listed below, the prospective student must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The student must be a legal resident of the state that they wish to apply for a grant/scholarship. Processing of Out of State Grant and Scholarship Funds
Once your grant or scholarship application has been processed by your respective state agency, Lackawanna College will be notified of these potential funds. These funds will be added to your aid offer and a revised offer of aid will be sent to you with the addition of these funds. The time for processing and disbursement of these funds will vary and are dependent on the agency for which grant or scholarship you have applied.
