Lackawanna College’s open admissions policy and affordable tuition makes it possible for you to continue your education in any field of study.

The Lackawanna College education opens up for you the opportunity to find a fulfilling career, or continue your education to the next level. If a certification or college degree is standing between you and the career you’ve always wanted, then we’re here to help you make it happen! Our programs are affordable for any college student!

Our Open Admissions Process

We keep it simple. An open admissions policy simply means that you can be accepted to the college for non-specialty programs with a high school diploma or GED.

Crucial to your application process is the ACCUPLACER placement exam. This is a multiple-choice assessment you must take as part of college acceptance (unless you have submitted acceptable SAT or ACT scores).

Once you complete the assessment (and we receive your results), our admissions staff uses your score alongside your high school transcripts to decide which course level will be right for you. Our levels include developmental, transitional, and college. If you score in the developmental or transitional course levels, you will be placed in a remedial set of courses to gain the core skills taught in those classes.

Lackawanna College’s open admissions policy is also a rolling one, meaning that we can accept your application up until the first day of a semester’s start. Note that the sooner you apply, the more opportunities you will have regarding course scheduling, financial aid, and residence hall availability.

How to Apply

Our mission is to make it easy to apply to Lackawanna College. Submit the following the complete your application:

  • Online college application (fee not required for degree-seeking students)
  • Your official high school transcript or GED score transcript
  • All official college transcripts from any previously attended institution
  • Optional: SAT or ACT score report
  • ACCUPLACER course placement assessment, unless submitting SAT or ACT or receiving acceptable transfer credits
  • FAFSA, if applying for financial aid consideration, and include Lackawanna College (school code 003283)

Along with your application, you may optionally submit personal essays or letters of recommendation expressing why you would make a good student at Lackawanna College. These materials can help your candidacy but are not required.

If you are applying to one of our specialty programs in our Division of Health Sciences, School of Hospitality, or Center for Technology Innovation, you may have additional admission or application requirements to review with your Enrollment Counselor. Once your college application is complete, your Enrollment Counselor will determine if you are yet qualified to pursue that specialty program and follow any required steps in that admission process.

Finally, once we extend to you a college acceptance letter, you will be required to pay your commitment fee to guarantee your place in the incoming class. These fees are $100 for commuters or $375 for residents, and are non-refundable. Once paid and all required documents are received, you will receive information on the next steps to sign up for an Academic Orientation prior to registering for your first semester courses.
