PEP Inspire, Inc.: Lackawanna College Venture Lab Impact Story

PEP Inspire provides encouragement and inspiration during challenging times.

“I sincerely appreciate their eagerness and willingness to help… I was impressed by the level of business knowledge another student displayed during our brief conversation at the Lab – a testament to the value that the Venture Lab is adding to those who use the resource.” — David Richmond

About PEP Inspire

With the help of the Lackawanna College Venture Lab, entrepreneur David Richmond launched PEP Inspire, a global application that aims to eliminate chronic depression by providing inspiration, encouragement, and access to relevant information in a digital format at no cost to the user. The company aims to help anyone who is seeking a balanced, meaningful, and happy life. Currently, the PEP Inspire messages are available on the company’s YouTube channel, and the PEP app can be downloaded onto smartphones for free. During the recent global pandemic and renewed movement for racial justice in America, PEP Inspire has seen an uptick in membership and usage. Quite fitting, the company’s mission is to help “Change your thinking, transform your life.”

Founder Story

David Richmond is a recent graduate of Lackawanna College’s petroleum & natural gas business administration program. He conceived the idea of the PEP app during a business communications class and realized there is a growing need for the motivational services it provides.

At the Lab

Although he runs his own insurance agency, David saw value in developing this new business. He launched the first iteration of PEP Inspire in November 2019 and worked with the Venture Lab this spring to get some clarity on ease of access and identifying a target market. The lab assisted with testing the app, leading to a more focused understanding of the company’s market.

What’s Next?

David continues to work with the Venture Lab to explore marketing opportunities. As an early-stage venture, he hopes to improve outreach and continue to touch people’s lives as the world works to heal from the Covid-19 pandemic and racial justice unrest.
