Back-to-back Best Places to Work honors for Lackawanna College

SCRANTON, Pa. – For the second consecutive year, Lackawanna College has been named one of the Best Places to Work in PA. The College received its first award in 2014 and is pleased to accept the honor once again in 2015.

Best Places to Work in PA is a survey competition to determine and recognize the participants that are the best employers. Created in 2000, it is one of the first statewide programs of its kind in the country. The process is managed by Best Companies Group.

The College was one of 100 businesses honored in all and, more specifically, one of 74 recognized among small- and medium-sized companies with less than 250 employees. Top businesses were honored at an event at the Lancaster County Convention Center on Dec. 3.

“As much as last year’s recognition was an honor, being selected for the second time is a validation of all the hard work that has gone into making our employees feel valued,” said Lackawanna College President Mark Volk.

“With just under 250 full-time employees, we compete against much smaller companies that can easily address the concerns of 10 or 20 staff members. Lackawanna College is a diverse organization with a mixture of faculty, staff, and administration with each group having a different view of its needs. What binds us together, though, is that common dedication to our students and our mission. That is what makes it possible for us to be such a great place to work.”

Companies from across the state entered the two-part process to determine the 100 Best Places to Work in PA. The first part of this process was evaluating each nominated company’s workplace policies, practices, philosophies, systems and demographics. The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience, representing the majority of the final evaluation. The combined scores determined the top companies and the final ranking.
