Financial Aid Scam Warning to Lackawanna College Students
This is an example of the many SCAMS out there targeting college students.
Below is a copy of a letter that has been going around to some of our students. Please be advised this is an example of the many SCAMS out there targeting college students. Students have been told they have to make immediate payments, strongly encouraged to consolidate their loans, change their FSA ID information with a representative over the phone and are persuaded to verify personal identifying information.
THINGS TO REMEMBER:
- NO ONE other than you should have access to your FSA ID log in information
- Use extreme caution when giving out personal identifying information over the phone
- There are options when it comes to repaying your student loans. Contact your loan servicer to discuss your repayment options.
Uncertain of the validity of a document you’ve received whether it be phone, email or mail? Stop in the Financial Aid Office and we will be happy to review. If you feel you’ve been targeted by one of these companies, please contact your Student Loan Servicer and the Department of Education as soon as possible to inform them you believe your information has been compromised. Not only is your information potentially at risk but so could your parents.
