Reader Courses and Independent Study
Reader Courses
- Matriculated students who are unable to take a required course in a regularly scheduled class may apply for a Reader Course
- Initial approval is needed from the appropriate Department Chairperson
- If approval is secured, final permission must be granted by the Dean
- If approved, the student will be guided by a faculty member
- The course must be required in the student’s curriculum
- The course is not offered or is in conflict with another required course
- The student must be in his / her last semester
- The student is responsible for the payment of tuition and fees upon application of Reader Course
Independent Study
- Independent Study results when college authorities agree to substitute for a regular class a study program that is specifically designed to meet the needs of an exceptionally gifted student
- Initial approval is needed from the appropriate Department Chairperson
- If approval is secured, final permission must be granted by the Dean
- Progress is monitored by a faculty member through periodic meetings.
- A letter grade is assigned
- 15 credits must have been completed at Lackawanna College
- Student must demonstrate outstanding academic achievement prior to receiving approval
