Lackawanna College Receives HEROES Grant

Lackawanna College has been awarded a $1,000 UnitedHealth HEROES service-learning grant from Youth Service America (YSA) and UnitedHealth Group. Faculty member Gail Laskowski will lead a team of Early Childhood Education students in a service learning project to promote healthy eating and healthy lifestyles in young children. Under the supervision of Ms. Laskowski, students will develop a hands-on nutritional education program to deliver to children ages 3-6. Students will then deliver the program at 5-6 area early childhood centers. A culminating event will be held during the evening of April 23, 2009, in celebration of Global Youth Service Day and the Week of the Young Child. During the April 23 event, early childhood providers are invited to Lackawanna College to receive training in delivering the experiential program. All early childhood providers are welcome. The event will be held in the College Boardroom from 6-8pm.
