Lackawanna College has been included on the 2010 list of Military Friendly Schools announced by G.I. Jobs. The list honors the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools which are doing the most to embrace America’s veterans as students.
Lackawanna College is already a Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program (Yellow Ribbon Program) member. The program is a provision of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008, which allows United States institutions of higher learning to voluntarily enter into an agreement with VA to fund tuition expenses that exceed the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition rate. The institution can contribute up to 50% of those expenses, and VA will match the same amount as the institution, resulting in a significant savings for the veteran.
“This list is especially important now because the recently enacted Post-9/11 GI Bill has given veterans virtually unlimited financial means to go to school,” said Rich McCormack, G.I. Jobs publisher. “Veterans can now enroll in any school, provided they’re academically qualified. So schools are clamoring for them like never before. Veterans need a trusted friend to help them decide where to get educated. The Military Friendly Schools list is that trusted friend.”
“Lackawanna College understands the qualities that veterans obtain during their military service,” said Lackawanna College Executive Vice President Mark Volk. “We look for those same qualities when we recruit students to attend the College so we embrace the opportunity to bring in veterans to become part of out student body.”
