Lackawanna College dedicates Healey Academic Center

A proud and adoring crowd of over 100 people turned out on a cold, rainy day in downtown Scranton to celebrate the dedication of the Francis X. Healey Academic Center on Thursday, November 5, 2009. The plaque commemorating the event was unveiled by Lackawanna College President Raymond Angeli and Chairman of the Board of Trustees Dominick DeNaples. Both Mr. Angeli and Mr. DeNaples spoke about the accomplishments of Professor Healey and his dedication and contributions to the College. Also speaking on behalf of Mr. Healey’s family was his nephew Mike Healey, who is the Superintendent of Tunkhannock Area schools.

Born and raised in Carbondale, PA, Professor Healey graduated from St. Rose High School and the University of Scranton, where he received his BS degree in English and his MS in Counseling and Psychology. After working as a high school English teacher, he came to Lackawanna in 1965, where he has taught Psychology and English. Professor Healey has been named to the Outstanding Educators of America and Who’s Who in America lists. He has initiated and implemented Education curriculum at the College for many years and currently serves as Director of Cooperative Education while continuing to teach classes at Lackawanna.

During his remarkable tenure, Mr. Healey has taught three generations of students, many who often share that their parents and siblings remember his classes well. The Healey Center is located at 415 North Washington Ave. and currently houses the offices for Admissions, Vice-President of Academic Affairs, Faculty, and Continuing Education, as well as classrooms and meeting space.
