    Lackawanna preparing for pop-up party

SCRANTON, Pa. – Lackawanna College is putting the final pieces in place for a new and exciting event to take place in northeastern Pennsylvania.

“Out of the Blue,” a pop-up picnic dinner, is just one component of the College’s 120th anniversary celebration. The event is set for Sept. 17, from 6-9:30 p.m. in a secret location in the Scranton area.

Out of the Blue is inspired in part by Diner en Blanc, the annual international dinner party that occupies a public space for a single night, and the success of other spontaneous cultural events in NEPA including the Pothole Pop-Up competition that was put on by the Pop-Up Studio this spring.

The secret location of the dinner will be revealed to all registered guests via text message on Sept. 17. Guests can reserve their seat for Out of the Blue at outofthebluedinner.com. Seats are $20 each for both Table Captains and their guests.

Out of the Blue encourages a flair for the elegant, as Table Captains are able to craft a party within a party by arranging their own posh picnic menu and tablescapes with the help of their invited guests. Table Captains can invite up to nine guests to join them in the unique experience. There will also be a tablescape competition for the best centerpiece and presentation. Flameless candles, proper dinnerware, and BYOB wine, champagne, and beer can help complete each Table Captain’s personal atmosphere.

Food will not be sold at the event, but guests can arrange to order a menu from one of Out of the Blue’s partners, including the Lackawanna College Culinary Arts program.

Guests are encouraged to dress elegantly in shades of blue or incorporating blue elements into their outfits. Men and women attending the event can pull out their best blue dress shirts, blouses, earrings, and more to create a polished outfit.

The event is 21-and-over, and tables, chairs, table cloths, and napkins are provided for all who register before Sept. 10. Guests are encouraged to clean their own area out of respect for the public space, taking the memory of an unforgettable event with them.
