Raymond S. Angeli
Lackawanna College President
Raymond S. Angeli is President of Lackawanna College, having been named to the position in December 1994. He had previously served on the College's board from 1989 through 1992.
Prior to his appointment, Mr. Angeli was a member of Pennsylvania Governor Robert Casey's cabinet, serving as Secretary of the state's Department of Community Affairs. He had assumed the top post in the department in January 1994 after having served as Deputy Secretary for Programs at the agency and as director of its Northeast Regional office.
Before entering public service, Mr. Angeli was a career Army officer, attaining the rank of lieutenant colonel, and was chairman of the Military Science department of the University of Scranton. He was commissioned as an infantry officer in 1966 and graduated from the U.S. Army Aviation School as a helicopter pilot.
He served two combat tours in Southeast Asia as commander of a helicopter company. In addition, he served as a Department of Defense Inspector General and as a Foreign Area Officer in the U.S. Embassy in Paris. Mr. Angeli also was the U.S. Army representative to the Southwest Asia Working Group in the Pentagon and was Deputy Director of U.S. Army Personnel in Sattihip, Thailand. He is a recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal, the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, the Air Medal and the Pennsylvania Meritorious Service Medal.
Mr. Angeli holds a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Nebraska and a master's in education from the University of Scranton. He also attended the Worthington Scranton campus of Pennsylvania State University where he earned an associate degree in engineering.
He has studied French at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA, and International Relations at the University of Kansas. He was an instructor at the U.S. Army Armor School, Fort Knox, KY, and graduated from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, Fort Levenworth, KS. Mr. Angeli is certified as a secondary school administrator and in counseling education.
Mark Volk
Lackawanna College Executive Vice-President
Mark Volk is the Executive Vice President at Lackawanna College, having joined the administration in July, 2004. He also serves as the colleges Title III Grant Coordinator.
A retired Army Colonel, he earned his Bachelors Degree in History from the University of Scranton and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in Field Artillery in 1977. During his 26 year Army career, he served in a variety of staff and command positions in both the United States and Germany. He also trained as a Middle East/North Africa specialist. He studied Arabic at the Defense Language Institute, Monterey, CA, and graduated with honors. He then spent 18 months living in Tunisia where he completed advanced Arabic training at the Department of State Foreign Service Institute Tunis and traveled extensively throughout the Middle East and North Africa.
During the Los Angeles riots in 1992, he was the Joint Task Force liaison officer to Central Bureau, LAPD. Returning to Germany in 1994, he served as Commander, 103rd/101st Military Intelligence Battalion. He deployed the 101st MI to Bosnia in September 1996 where it was the intelligence support force for Task Force Eagle in Multi-National District North.
His educational experience includes serving as an instructor of military history and leadership at the Armys Field School at Fort Sill, OK., as well as an assignment as a ROTC instructor at Lafayette College, Easton, PA. While at Lafayette, he developed and taught a leadership and management class that was offered to both ROTC cadets and students at large. During the last 5 years of his career, he managed two Army specialties, the FAO Program as well as the Army Strategic Plans and Policy specialist program. Additionally, he was responsible for the integration of Joint Professional Military Education Learning Objectives across the Armys schools.
He is a graduate of the Armed Forces Staff College and earned a Masters of Science in National Security Strategy from the National War College. Additionally, he holds a Masters Degree in History from the University of Scranton.
His military awards include the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Commendation Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Armed Forces Service Medal, and the NATO Medal. COL Volk was also awarded the Soldiers Medal, the Armys highest non-combat award for heroism, received for his actions during the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon.
COL Volk and his wife, the former Lynn Favini of Scranton, reside in Benton Township, PA. They have one son, Mark Jr., who is married and resides in Springfield, VA and are the proud grandparents of his son, Alexander.
Jill A. Murray, Ph.D.
Vice President for Academic Affairs
Jill A. Murray is the Vice President for Academic Affairs after joining the administration in October of 2008.
As Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Murray is responsible for, administers and provides an environment for the creation of all degree curricula including all online courses and initiatives. She has also has responsibility for all functions of the organization under academic affairs, including but not limited to Enrollment/Admissions, Registrar, Student Affairs and Athletics. As of July 1, 2009, all of the Satellite Center Operations in Hazleton, Honesdale, Towanda and Lackawanna College’s new campus in New Milford report through Academic Affairs. Jill is the Middle States and Pennsylvania Department of Education contact for the college as well. Dr. Murray is responsible for the academic strategic planning and implementation initiatives for academic affairs.
Dr. Murray previously served as Director of Marywood University’s Institute for Health and Wellness and where she was also an adjunct faculty member. She will be co-presenting at the EACUBO (Eastern Association of College and University Business Officers) in October in Atlanta for work she did as Director of the Institute. Prior to that, she was the Director of Service Operations for CIGNA Healthcare’s National Pharmacy Platform and its regional Managed Healthcare Products. At CIGNA, she received two Presidential Awards for process improvement. Dr. Murray also worked in management for a number of years with UPS.
Dr. Murray holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Scranton and a master's degree from SUNY @ Albany. Dr. Murray earned her Ph.D. from Marywood University in Human Development. She also holds a Master Black Belt Certificate in Six Sigma from Villanova University. In addition to being a member of a number of community organizations, Dr. Murray also serves on the Board of Directors for the Great Valley Technology Alliance (GVTA).
Dr. Murray currently resides in Dunmore.
Ann Marie Stelma Ph.D
Lackawanna College VP of Continuing Education
Dr. Ann Marie Stelma is VP for Continuing Education at Lackawanna College. As VP, Dr. Stelma As Vice President for Continuing Education, she administering all facets of the Continuing Education Department, which includes the college's non-matriculating courses and a variety of special educational and training programs, as well as all Allied Health programs offered at the college. In addition, Dr. Stelma is responsible for the college’s GED and Adult Basic Education programs, and has direct oversight of the college’s satellite centers in Hazleton, Honesdale and Towanda, and the new site in Susquehanna which is expected to open in July of 2007. VP Stelma also oversees the College’s Employment training institute.
Miss Stelma has 25 years of experience in the educational field, working at every level from elementary through college. She started at Lackawanna College in September 1985 and through the years has held a variety of positions with the college. Among them have been Dean of Continuing Education, Academic Development Specialist, Director of Developmental Education and Director of Continuing Education. In addition to her other duties, she currently serves as a member of the President's Cabinet.
Prior to coming to Lackawanna College, Miss Stelma worked as an Instructional Specialist for Luzerne County Community College and as a Reading Specialist for the Tunkhannock Area School District and the director of the STEP program while completing her graduate work at Bloomsburg State College.
A resident of Pittston, Miss Stelma earned her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and her master's in Reading from Bloomsburg State College. She holds state certification as a Reading Specialist. Dr. Stelma recently received her doctorate in Human Development in the area of Higher Education Administration from Marywood University.
She is a member of many professional and community organizations, including the numerous committees at the Chamber of Commerce, the Northeastern Pennsylvania Continuing Education Council, the Business Quality Partnership, the Pennsylvania Association for Developmental Education, the Business and Professional Women's Club and the Pittston Parks and Recreation Commission.
Gail Scaramuzzo
Lackawanna College Vice-President for Administration
Mrs. Scaramuzzo comes to the College with an eclectic portfolio of skill and experience. Prior to her tenure at Lackawanna she held a series of administrative positions in several venues to include banking, the law, medicine, insurance, human resources and social services. She has been with the College since 1996 and has served in a variety of roles to include Business Manager, Plant Operations Director and Chief Administrative Officer prior to her appointment as Vice President for Administration.
As Vice President for Administration, she supervises the human resources department, facilities, construction, contracts, leases, insurance and acts as liaison between contractors, engineers, architects, outside vendors and legal counsel. She also serves as one of the College Affirmative Action Officers.
Mrs. Scaramuzzo earned an Associate in Business Science degree and an Associate in Liberal Arts degree from Lackawanna College. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Business Administration, with a concentration in Human Resources and her Masters Degree in Professional Studies from Thomas Edison State College in Trenton, New Jersey. She has successfully completed her doctoral studies and has a Ph.D. in Professional Studies in Education with a concentration in Adult Educational Technologies from Capella University, Minneapolis, MN.
Other certifications and licenses include a certificate in Educational Management from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, International Building Codes Certification (formerly BOCA), a Contractor’s License for the City of Scranton, certificates in Project Performance Management and Project Management Practices, as well as Professional Human Resources Management Masters Certificate from the University of Scranton.
Long active in her community, Mrs. Scaramuzzo is a former board member of the South Abington Township Sewer Authority and served as Chair of the Clarks Summit, South Abington Township Joint Sewer Authority. She serves on the Advisory Board for the Salvation Army and is a former member of the Voluntary Action Center Board and a member of the Dress for Success Advisory Board and the MetroAction Committee at the Scranton Chamber of Commerce.
Dr. Scaramuzzo and her husband Art reside in Scranton, and are the parents of three grown daughters, Hilary Scaramuzzo Mack, Abby Jane Scaramuzzo and Tamika Ann Scaramuzzo.
Mark Duda
Lackawanna College Dean of Enrollment Services
and Head Football Coach
Mark Duda is the Director of Admissions and the Head Football coach. He joined Lackawanna College as an admissions advisor and the defensive coordinator for the football team in 1993. In 1994 he was appointed Head Football coach and in 1996 he became the Director of Admissions.
Prior to his 11 year affiliation with Lackawanna, Mark was a career athlete. He was drafted in the fourth round from the University of Maryland in 1983 to play football for the St. Louis Cardinals. He played for St. Louis from 1983-1988 and then for the Phoenix Cardinals in 1989. He retired from the National Football League in 1989 and took his first coaching job at East Stroudsburg University where, in 1991, he completed his Bachelors degree in Physical Education and graduated Cum Laude.
In both his collegiate and professional football career, Mark received many honors, including: Second team All-American; All Atlantic Coast Conference; played in the Eat West Shrine Bowl; Coach of the Year in the Northeast football Conference (2000); and was induced into the Maryland Wall of fame in 2000.
In 1994 Mark began as the Head Coach at Lackawanna College. His impact was felt both on and off the field. He transformed the teams losing record into an 82 wins and 31 losses over the past eleven years and the team has appeared in 4 bowl games. Off the field, in Marks first year, his student athletes grade point averages increased by 50%.
Mr. Duda not only gives to the college but he also gives back to the community. He has volunteered for St. Louis School for the Blind Junior Olympics, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America, Fundraisers for the March of Dimes and U.S. Marine Corps Toys for tots program and made numerous visits to Shriners Children’s Hospital.
Mr. Duda and his wife, the former Denise Yankoski of Scranton, reside in East Mountain with their daughter Taylor Elizabeth Duda.
Kevin O'Hara
Lackawanna College Director of Public Relations
Kevin O'Hara is Lackawanna College's Director of Public Relations and Cultural Events. He also serves as Executive Director of The Mellow Theater, the College's performing arts facility.
He joined Lackawanna College in 1992 after over 30 years working experience as a journalist, writer and editor. Mr. O'Hara worked regionally for the Scranton Tribune as a feature and editorial writer, as Assistant Sunday Editor and as City Editor for the daily newspaper. He also served as City Editor for the Daily and Sunday Sun in Scranton before coming to Lackawanna.
Mr. O'Hara has been a professional film critic for over 20 years, both in print and on radio. He currently serves as co-host of the Eye on the Arts show on Channel 61 in Scranton, which has been broadcast for four years.
Prior to his communications career, Mr. OHara taught English in high school and worked in the training department of a major financial institution.
He earned his bachelor's degree from St. John's University, New York, with majors in English and Speech, and attended graduate school for two years at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., in the Drama Department. Mr. O'Hara has acted in and directed many stage productions.
Theresa Scopelliti
Lackawanna College Registrar
Theresa Scopelliti is Lackawanna College's Registrar. Theresa joined the Lackawanna family in 2003 as Senior Assistant to the Registrar and became Registrar in July of 2006. Prior to coming to Lackawanna College, she worked at Marywood University in the Continuing Education Department. Theresa is also involved in the operation of a family business and has been since it opened in 1975.
Theresa earned an Associate Degree from Lackawanna College and is pursuing a degree in Business Management.
She lives in Scranton with her husband, Frank and has two children—a daughter, Dallas, and a son, Bryan.
Barbara Hapeman
Lackawanna College Director of Financial Aid
Barbara Hapeman joined Lackawanna College in February, 1999 as a Financial Aid Counselor. In December 2002, she assumed the role of Director of Financial Aid. Her primary responsibilities include managing Lackawannas $10 million financial aid program, including the administration of Title IV Federal financial aid and Pennsylvania state program requirements. She oversees planning, packaging, audits, compliance and ensures fulfillment of the Financial Aid offices mission statement, which is to provide quality service for students and families, equitably and ethically.
Barbara previously had 17 years experience in the financial service industry, both Retail and Operations. As a Systems and Projects Specialist, she played a leadership role in managing simultaneous projects, implementation of new products, bank acquisitions, divestitures and systems conversions, including the Y2K compliance of Fleet Banks Credit Card portfolio. She also has experience as a Money Room Manager, responsible for operations of the main cash vault and off-site ATMs, maintaining a cost center budget exceeding $1 million annually, and controlling an average daily system balance of $60 million.
She is a graduate of Marywood University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and a concentration in Computer Information Systems.
Barbara resides in Clarks Summit. She has 3 married daughters, Michelle, Amie and Kristi and 3 beautiful grandchildren.
Sharon Ebert, PHR
Lackawanna College Director of Human Resources and Institutional Research
Sharon Ebert has been with Lackawanna College since June of 1990. Initially hired as the Assistant to the President’s Secretary, she progressed through the ranks to the position she is currently in as Director of Human Resources and Institutional Research.
Mrs. Ebert’s educational background includes an Associate’s Degree from Lackawanna College in Business Administration, additional studies at Marywood University, and Bachelor’s Degree from Kennedy-Western University.
Professionally, she earned the Society for Human Resource Management’s “Professional in Human Resources” certification, certification for the 20-hour Steven Covey program The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and was nominated to the International Who’s Who of Professional Educators. She also received the College’s "Excellence in Action" award in the first quarter of 1999.
Mrs. Ebert has also served as an instructor for the Continuing Education Department, teaching courses in Introductory Keyboarding and Office 2000.
In addition to her full-time work at the College, Mrs. Ebert is a yellow-belt in karate, teaches private lessons at the dojo (martial arts school) she is a member of, and is the Owner and Head Instructor for Encore Twirlers, a baton twirling school which was founded in 1987 and has won numerous Pennsylvania State, East Coast Regional and National Championship Titles.
Mrs. Ebert resides with her husband Christopher, son Michael, and step-children Chris Jr. and Rachel.
Edward Wargo
Director of Administrative Computer Services
Edward Wargo has been Director of Administrative Computing at Lackawanna College since 1994, and has been responsible for the Colleges Administrative Computer Systems since 1989. He was in charge of the conversion from the Compass System to Quodata in 1994, and will oversee the technical tasks in the migration to Jenzabar. Mr. Wargo is responsible for the collection, maintenance and extraction of data from the Colleges Administrative Computer System, including customizations and user training.
Mr. Wargo earned his Masters Degree in Software Engineering from the University of Scranton. He also received a Master of Music Degree from the Manhattan School of Music, a Bachelor in Music, Summa Cum Laude, from Temple University, and an Associates in Computer Information Systems from Lackawanna College. He earned a certificate in PC Troubleshooting from CompuMaster.
