PSY 225 Counseling Theories and Techniques Course Objectives:

As a result of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Explain the ethical issues and standards of professional counseling relationships.

  2. Discuss the significant characteristics of an effective therapeutic relationship.

  3. Describe the key concepts and counseling techniques of selected counseling theories.

  4. Demonstrate proficiency in the basic counseling skills presented in the course.

  5. Write a psychosocial history and prepare a three-generation genogram.

  6. Develop a personal theory of counseling.
