SSC 125 Introduction to Human Services Course Objectives
- To study the history and background of human services in the United States.
- To study the historical background of human services from early to modern times.
- To investigate target populations that appear to have the greatest need of human services, including the poor, unemployed, children, elderly, mentally ill, substance abusers, the mentally retarded, the homeless, and AIDS patients.
- To study the theoretical perspectives of human services with emphasis on the Psychoanalytic, Humanistic, and Behavioristic models.
- To study the characteristics of the human services worker, including basic helping skills and the worker in individual and community settings.
- To study careers in human services.
- To study social policy and its effect on the delivery of social services.
- To investigate prevention in human services.
- To study issues and controversies in human services.
