SD 107 Basic Nutrition Course Objectives

  1. To increase understanding of the basic nutrients of our diet and understanding of the balance between the basic nutrients necessary for good health.
  2. To develop an understanding of the different types of dietary fat, their role in a healthy diet and their connection to cholesterol and triglycerides.
  3.  To understand the myths and realities of weight control and the causes/effects of eating disorders.
  4. To clarify the role of vitamins and mineral in the diet and their connection to stress and health management.
  5. To develop the ability to interpret marketers’ claims regarding nutritional value of foods.
  6. To increase the understanding of the connection between diet and heart disease and cancer.
