HTH 140 Ultrasound Physics I Course Objectives 

Following completion of theoretical and laboratory learning experiences, the student will be able to:

  1. Define sound versus ultrasound.
  2. Explain the Piezoelectric effect.
  3. Define ultrasound frequency and attenuation.
  4. Calculate the propagation velocity in various soft tissues.
  5. Define the four acoustic variables.
  6. Define the relationship between amplitude and intensity.
  7. Define acoustic impedance.
  8. Define the attenuation coefficient.
  9. List the four major types of ultrasound transducers.
  10. List the four major modes of ultrasound display.
