OT 213 Medical Terminology/Medical Transcription I Course Objectives:
Students in OT 213 should be able to:
- Pronounce, spell, and define medical terms consisting of prefixes, suffixes, combining forms, and root words.
- Correctly form plurals of medical terms.
- Recognize the abbreviations used in medical terminology.
- Pronounce and spell medical terms related to anatomy, physiology, laboratory tests, drug names, clinical medicine, surgery, pathology, and radiology.
- Correctly use a medical dictionary, physician’s desk reference, and other medical resources necessary in transcribing medical documents.
- Become skilled in operating transcribers, word processing software, and computers.
- Using medical software, reinforce spelling and definition of medical terms through various exercises correlating with student text.
- Transcribe letters of a medical nature, chart notes, histories and physicals, operative reports, and miscellaneous medical reports from audiocassettes correlating with student text.
- Proofread and correct transcribed medical documents.
- Use correct, current and competent language skills, both orally and in writing, pertaining to the language of medicine.
