LA 242 Advanced Legal Writing and Document Preparation Course Objectives:

Students will learn:

  1. How Lexis/Nexis, Westlaw and Internet sources are utilized in legal research.
  2. How to draft a response to a legal problem in a grammatically correct, intelligible manner.
  3. How to draft a legal document, including a contract, will, complaint and/or other legal material.
  4. How to draft, under the civil process, discovery requests, including but not limited to:
    • Interrogatories;
    • Deposition notices;
    • Requests for production of documents; and
    • Requests for admissions.
  5. The need to make legal documents lawfully correct while simple so that they can be easily understood.
