LA 202 Legal Research Course Objectives:

  1. Students will learn where and how to find the laws applicable to factual and/or legal disputes, specifically:
    • Where Supreme Court opinions may be found;
    • Where Federal appellate court cases may be found;
    • Where Federal District Court cases may be found;
    • Where State Court cases may be found;
    • Where Federal statutory law may be found; and
    • Where State statutory law may be found.
       
  2. Where and when primary material sources may be used.
     
  3. Where and when secondary materials may be consulted.
     
  4. How to find, in an effective manner, laws needed to resolve a legal issue.
