IS 215 Microcomputer Database Management Systems Course Objectives

An IS 215 student should be able to:

  1. Create a database, create tables, define fields, open a table, add records to an empty table, and print the contents of a table.
  2. Use a form to view the data.
  3. Create and run queries printing the results as reports, sort tables and join multiple tables.
  4. Maintain a database after its creation and implementation.
  5. Add, delete, change records, change the structure of the database, create validation rules, and specify referential integrity.
  6. Use queries to execute changes to groups of records.
  7. Create and use single-field and multiple-field indexes.
  8. Integrate Excel worksheet data into an Access database.
  9. Construct reports using the Report Wizard and Report Design Window.
  10. Use the Form Wizard and the Form Design Window to build and modify forms.
  11. Publish database data to the World Wide Web.
  12. Create, run and modify arguments in a macro.
  13. Add and modify command buttons, and combo boxes on forms.
  14. Create, modify, and use a switchboard.
  15. Link an Excel worksheet to an Access database.
