ECE 240 Language and Literature in Early Childhood Education Course Objectives:  

ECE 240 students should be able:

  1. To identify the classifications of children’s literature relevant to picture books, stories, rhymes, folklore, etc.
  2. To recognize the psychological needs affecting children’s choices of literature
  3. To define criteria for choosing literature for children
  4. To differentiate between styles of classical authors
  5. To recognize classical/modern illustrations
  6. To develop strategies for introducing children’s literature in day care or pre-school programs.
