CJS 215 Preliminary Law Enforcement and Criminal Investigations Course Objectives

A CJS 215 student should be able:  

  1. To provide the student with historical background on the role of uniformed police officers and plain clothed detectives.
  2. To acquaint the student with general investigative techniques commonly used in modern day police work.
  3. To present problem solving models, such as inductive and deductive reasoning and their applications in modern criminal investigations.
  4. To expose the student to scientific procedures and methods used in criminal investigations. Among the forensic techniques explored are classical and automated fingerprinting, electronic surveillance, DNA analysis and the use of computers.
  5. To provide critical analysis of past and current criminal investigations conducted by law enforcement at the local, state and federal levels.
