CJS 210 Community Relations in Criminal Justice Objectives:

CJS 210 students should be able:

  1. To provide the student with an understanding of the concepts of “Community Oriented Policing.”
  2. To acquaint the student with current programs used by police departments, such as DARE and COP, to achieve the goals of “Community Oriented Policing.”
  3. To present problem solving models used by police departments to address specific community concerns such as gang violence, drug abuse and domestic violence.
  4. To expose the student to current issues, including use and abuse of force, political involvement, “policing by consent” and the use of the media.
  5. To examine the trend toward “proactive policing”, which increases police-community interaction.
