CJS 125 Introduction to Search and Seizure and the Rules of Criminal Procedure Objectives:

CJS 125 students should be able:

  1. To provide the student with an understanding of basic individual rights under the United States and Pennsylvania constitutions.
  2. To present to the student the specific rights guaranteed by the Fourth, Fifth and Sixth amendments to the United States Constitution and the corresponding amendments to the Pennsylvania Constitution.
  3. To present current case laws relative to law of arrest, search and seizure and pre-arrest identification.
  4. To provide the student with a working knowledge of the “Exclusionary Rule” and related court cases.
  5. To compare Pennsylvania’s legal concepts with those of corresponding Federal standards concerning issues such as probable cause, privacy and “reasonableness”.
