CJS 110 The Correctional Community

Course Objectives:

CJS 110 students should be able:

  1. To provide the student with a general overview of the correctional system, both historical and modern.
  2. To acquaint the student with the basic theories of punishment and rehabilitation relative to the correctional system.
  3. To present to the student past and current methods relative to the management of inmates and inmate classification.
  4. To expose the student to issues such as prison construction and alternatives to incarceration.
  5. To explore new technology used in the fields of corrections, probation and parole, including home confinement, electronic monitoring and video conferencing.
