CJS 105 Introduction to the Criminal Justice System Course Objectives:

CJS 105 students should be able:

  1. To provide the student with a general overview of the basic institutions of social control, which include criminal law, the police, the judicial system and various forms of corrections.
  2. To acquaint the student with the groundwork of the several law enforcement agencies on the local, state and federal levels.
  3. To present to the student past and current viewpoints on the role of rehabilitation in the criminal justice system.
  4. To prevent and discuss critical issues such as community policing, alternative sentencing, jury selection and reform.
  5. To provide the student with an overview of current technology used in various parts of the criminal justice system.
