CHM 120/121 General Chemistry I Course Objectives:
- To learn to think like a chemist through theoretical and applied problem-solving activities involving qualitative and quantitative approaches.
- To appreciate the nature of the major areas of general chemistry, including physical principles, inorganic compounds, analytical techniques, organic chemistry, and aspects of biochemistry, and their integration.
- To explore how atoms and molecules are arranged in matter, their relative amounts, how they react, their energy patterns, and how they are held together.
- To provide opportunities for students to explore chemistry using the scientific method through hands-on activities in a chemical laboratory environment, and to be aware of and appreciate laboratory safety guidelines and procedures.
- To prepare students for future sciences courses in biology and chemistry and for future careers in the sciences.
