READER COURSES AND INDEPENDENT STUDY

Reader Courses

  • Matriculated students who are unable to take a required course in a regularly scheduled class may apply for a Reader Course
  • Initial approval is needed from the appropriate Department Chairperson
  • If approval is secured, final permission must be granted by the Dean
  • If approved, the student will be guided by a faculty member
  • The course must be required in the student’s curriculum
  • The course is not offered or is in conflict with another required course
  • The student must be in his / her last semester
  • The student is responsible for the payment of tuition and fees upon application of Reader Course

Independent Study

  • Independent Study results when college authorities agree to substitute for a regular class a study program that is specifically designed to meet the needs of an exceptionally gifted student
  • Initial approval is needed from the appropriate Department Chairperson
  • If approval is secured, final permission must be granted by the Dean
  • Progress is monitored by a faculty member through periodic meetings.
  • A letter grade is assigned
  • 15 credits must have been completed at Lackawanna College
  • Student must demonstrate outstanding academic achievement prior to receiving approval
