    About the Race

The Protect & Defend 5K was first held in May 2015 to benefit the Pennsylvania State Police Cpl. Bryon Dickson and Tpr. Alex Douglass Funds following an attack that killed and injured troopers at the PSP Blooming Grove barracks on Sept. 12, 2014.

Following the on-duty death of Scranton Patrolman John J. Wilding on July 12, 2015, race benefits since 2016 have been directed to the Ptlm. John J. Wilding Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Lackawanna College Police Academy. Wilding was an Academy graduate who had also briefly served the Lackawanna College Public Safety Department.

    Pre-Race Events

A Pre-Race Happy Hour will be held at the Backyard Ale House, 523 Linden St., Scranton, on Friday, July 20, from 5-7 p.m.

Admission is $20 and includes a limited open bar and food, as well as access to our basket raffles.

Those who register for the 5K at or prior to the Happy Hour will receive a $5 discount to our pre-race event.
