JOB TRAINING PROGRAMS
| Administrative Technician Training: |
- Business Accounting Assistant -- this training consists of 4 learning modules: basic computer applications, basic accounting/QuickBooks, advanced accounting/QuickBooks, and job finding skills, as well as practical experience working in an office setting.
- Business Office Assistant -- this training consists of 4 learning modules: basic computer applications, basic accounting/QuickBooks, advanced Word with business letters, and job finding skills, as well as practical experience working in an office setting.

| Medical Office Technician Training: |
- Health Insurance Assistant -- this training consists of 4 learning modules: health insurance billing & coding, basic computer applications, job finding skills, and the student’s choice of either advanced Microsoft Word with business letters or basic accounting/QuickBooks, as well as practical experience working in a medical office setting.
- Healthcare Office Assistant -- this training consists of 4 learning modules: medical terminology/transcription, basic computer applications, job finding skills, and the student’s choice of either advanced Microsoft Word with business letters or basic accounting/QuickBooks as well as practical experience working in a medical office setting.

| Nurse Aide Training: |
| This program is a twelve-week, 200 hour program with hands-on, supervised clinical experience. The program will train individuals according to state guidelines. Students will participate in 9 weeks of didactic instruction and three weeks of hands-on clinical experience. Areas of instruction will include an introduction to health care, basic nursing skills, CPR, communication skills, resident’s rights, infection control, nutrition, body systems, common diseases, death and dying, and intervention strategies. Students successfully completing the program will be eligible to take the American Red Cross Nurse Aide Competency Examination. |
CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS
| Accounting Clerk in Oil & Gas Industry: |
| This program is for individuals seeking to improve their present employment positions. With the expected rise of employment opportunities (due to the growth in the natural gas industry) as well as the needs assessment review from the Marcellus Shale Workforce, it is estimated that 20% of gas industry related jobs will be in: administrative, general office, accounting, support services and information technology. These individuals will discover that this program is an excellent means to expand their knowledge, increase their skills, and qualify for promotions. After successfully completing ten three-credit courses to fulfill the accounting clerk career needs for this industry, a Career Advancement Certificate will be awarded. Credits attained in this program may also be applied to Lackawanna College’s Associate in Applied Science Degree in Accounting with emphasis in Oil & Gas. |
| Career Advancement Studies Program: |
| This program is a very flexible, completely customized program in which any twenty-five college credits from the College Catalog are put together in a comprehensive educational training program. The Administrative Assistant, Accounting Technician, Medical Office Assistant and Legal Assistant Concentrations are commonly done with this program. |
PERSONAL ENRICHMENT COURSES
| Real Estate Fundamentals |
| A foundation for the study of real estate in Pennsylvania covering the language, principles and laws that govern the real estate business. (30 hours) |
| Real Estate Practices |
| An introduction to the real estate business including a survey of areas of specialization with emphasis on the role of a real estate agent in residential brokerage. The course is designed to provide a working knowledge of the forms and documents used including the related mathematics and the examination of a real estate transaction. (30 hours) |
| E-Bay Selling |
| This course will provide a working knowledge of the Internet auction site E-Bay including: creating an account, researching sellers, finding items for purchase, writing an ad to sell an item, shipping options, sales disclaimers, etc. All students will actually sell an item during the course of this class! (16 hours) |
| Introduction to Microsoft Office |
| This course is designed for people who want to increase the usefulness of their computer either at home or at work. Microsoft Office is the world’s most popular suite of computer applications, which includes Word (word processing), Excel (spreadsheets), and Access (database). Students do not need to have Microsoft Office at home to benefit from this course. After completing this class the student may advance to such classes as Word II, Excel II, and QuickBooks Pro. The “Computer Basics” course or a familiarity with a computer and keyboard is recommended. (16 hours) |
| Microsoft Word & Excel I |
| This course is designed for individuals who use a word processing program and/or spreadsheet program occasionally. Students may learn useful tasks such as page numbering, creating a letterhead, setting tabs and margins, and more in Word, as well as formatting data, creating charts, basic formulas, and more in Excel ( Actual course content will depend on enrolled students’ preferences). Students do not need to have Microsoft Word or Excel at home to benefit from this course. (16 hours) |
| Microsoft Excel II |
| This course is designed for individuals who want to take their knowledge of spreadsheets to “the next level”. Students may learn useful tasks such as advanced formulas and data forms in Excel ( Actual course content will depend on enrolled students’ preferences). Students do not need to have Microsoft Excel at home to benefit from this course. (16 hours) |
| Introduction to Sign Language Part I |
| This course will provide the student with the vocabulary needed for ASL (American Sign Language). Students will gain the beginning skills necessary to communicate with a deaf individual. (16 hours) |
| QuickBooks Pro 2007 |
| QuickBooks Pro is a computer accounting software program. This course will provide a working knowledge related to the following topics; setting up companies, entering transactions (receipts and payments), developing reports, time tracking, project costing, payroll, billing, and estimating. Students practice in class and do lab exercises. Students who successfully complete this course might also enjoy an Excel course. (16 hours) |
