General Program Description:
The Adult Education Program at Lackawanna College has served adults in Lackawanna and Luzerne counties since 1990. Our primary focus is to reach adults with weak academic skills and educational or economic need. Our program specific goals are to help students transition to post-secondary education and to obtain employment.
Services Provided:
GED Class – Daytime and evening GED classes (high school equivalency) are held in Scranton. An evening class is offered at our Hazleton site. Classes are held twice each week for two and one half hour sessions. These are advanced classes to help students pass the GED Test as soon as possible.
Content areas included in instruction are Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science.
Instructors:
The Adult Education Department has three part time instructors in /Scranton and two in Hazleton. All instructors have a minimum of a bachelor degree in education and many years of experience.

Enrollment:
Each year, the Adult education Program serves between 200 and 300 adult students of diverse cultures and ages. Any adult aged 17 and older who is not currently enrolled in school is eligible for our program. We make every effort to enroll new students on a monthly basis depending on availability. All classes are small and individualized to address the most important needs of the students. Classes usually run from September through June.
Fees:
These classes are funded by the Pennsylvania department of education and Lackawanna College and are offered free of charge.
