Course Description
Lackawanna College is an accredited Paramedic Training Institute certified by the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
Lackawanna College offers a full-time day program at our Scranton campus. This is an intense nine month program that combines over 500 hours of classroom education with extensive clinical and field internships. Students will interact with healthcare professionals in both hospital and pre-hospital settings. Courses are taught by experienced personnel; including nationally registered paramedics, nurses, and doctors. Successful completion of the program will earn you a certificate of completion. This certificate of completion will make you eligible for National Registry examination at the Paramedic level.

Program Goals
The Paramedic Program at Lackawanna College is designed to prepare the student for the National Registry examination for Paramedic certification. It is our objective to provide each student with the knowledge and understanding as well as the psychomotor skills necessary to provide the highest caliber of care to the sick and injured.
Program Prerequisites
For admission into the Lackawanna College Paramedic Program all potential students must:
- Be at least 18 years of age at the start of the program.
- Be a certified Emergency Medical Technician with at least one year of MICU experience.
- Complete and submit a College Admissions Application along with the required $100 fee and submitall of the following:
- Official copy of current EMT Certifications
- Proof of medical insurance
- Current liability insurance
- Driver’s License
- Proof of High School Diploma or GED
- Complete and submit all of the following documents:
- Personal Health History
- Proof of physical exam (must be signed by family physician)
- College Assessment Test
- EMT Skills Review Test
- Oral Interview with College’s Paramedic Program Staff
- Submit full payment for textbooks or have made payment arrangements with the Business Office.
- Submit full payment for program uniforms or have made payment arrangements with the Business Office.
- Have completed and submitted all necessary Financial Aid forms.
*All students are required to pay materials/registration fees prior to the start of class. Any student not paying these fees in full, will not be admitted into class. No exceptions will be made.

* Lackawanna College makes every attempt to help students meet their educational expenses. All students are encouraged to complete a FREE application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA), which are available in the Financial Aid Office.
The Federal Pell Grant and several loan programs may also be available to eligible Paramedic students. Please call (570) 961-7859 to schedule an appointment with a Financial Aid representative.
Students may also be eligible for additional funding through their local Career Link.

Emergency Medical Programs
911 Training
Basic Telecommunications Course
This 40-hour course is an intensive program to train telecommunicators in standardized public safety communication. The curriculum was designed to be used as an agency-based training program for new telecommunicators.
Basic Emergency medical Dispatcher (EMD) Training Course
This 32-hour course covers topics that provide the student with the knowledge and skills to answer 911 calls for emergency medical service and to prioritize their responses properly. The course also provides the student with the knowledge needed to convey proper pre-arrival instructions to the caller when needed.
Supervisor Course
This course is designed for prospective, new or experienced communications supervisors who want to learn more and enhance their supervisory skills and knowledge. Students not only learn supervisory topics, they also learn how to work together in groups and cooperate to attain common goals.
Fire Dispatch
This course focuses on the task associated with call taking and dispatching for the fire service. This course is designed to help you learn more about the skills, knowledge and abilities needed to work in a fire department environment.

Lackawanna College will arrange for Pre-screening of potential candidates.
Pre-screening can include any combination of the following:
- Physical Examination General Physical
- Hearing Test
- Color Blindness Testing
- Drug Screening
- PA State Police Request for Criminal Record Check
- Typing Test
- Psychological Examination
