Truck Driver Training

Smith & Solomon Truck Driver Training
In affiliation with Lackawanna College

The Smith & Solomon Company was founded in 1985 and has trained and placed over 20,000 individuals in the transportation industry.  Smith & Solomon partnered with Lackawanna College in 2003 to offer truck driver training in Northeastern PA.

CDL Driver Training

  1. New classes start every Monday
  2. Student must be 18 years of age (21 years to drive state to state)
  3. Bus students must be 21 years of age
  4. Pass a Federal D.O.T. physical exam
  5. Be a licensed automobile driver
  6. Have an acceptable driving record
  7. Read and write English

 

CDL A – Tractor Trailer Training

This course prepares students for the Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Commission’s written permit test and driver’s road test to attain a commercial driver’s license.

Instruction in the program includes general knowledge, air brakes, combination vehicles, hazardous materials, tankers, and doubles and triples. The course requires 1 week of classroom instruction and approximately 4 weeks of yard and road training. Prerequisites include passing a D.O.T. physical and drug screen. All students must be over 18 years of age. Completion of this course and successful completion of the Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Commission’s permit and road test will entitle the student to drive Tractor Trailers and Straight Trucks throughout the United States. In order to drive across state lines, a student must be 21 years of age.

Cost:   $4,150.00

 

CDL A Plus Passenger Endorsement

Tractor Trailer & Bus Training

This course prepares students for the Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Commission’s written permit test and driver’s road test to attain a commercial driver’s license.

Instruction in the program includes general knowledge, air brakes, combination vehicles, hazardous materials, tankers, and doubles and triples. A passenger endorsement is also offered for those wishing to drive a bus.

The course requires 1 week of classroom instruction and approximately 4 weeks of yard and road training. 

Prerequisites include passing a D.O.T. physical and drug screen and fingerprinting for bus candidates. All students must be over 18 years of age.

Completion of this course and successful completion of the Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Commission’s permit and road test will entitle the student to drive Tractor Trailers and Straight Trucks throughout the United States. In order to drive across state lines, a student must be 21 years of age.

Cost:   $4,705.00

 

CDL B – Straight Truck Training

This course prepares students for the Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Commission’s written permit test and driver’s road test to attain a commercial driver’s license.

Instruction in the program includes general knowledge and air brakes. The course requires 1 week of classroom instruction and approximately 4 weeks of yard and road training.  Prerequisites include passing a D.O.T. physical and drug screen. All students must be over 18 years of age.

Completion of this course and successful completion of the Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Commission’s permit and road test will entitle the student to drive Straight Trucks throughout the United States. In order to drive across state lines, a student must be 21 years of age.

Cost:   $3,205.00

 

CDL B with passenger endorsement

Bus Training

This course prepares students for the Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Commission’s written permit test and driver’s road test to attain a commercial driver’s license.

Instruction in the program includes general knowledge and air brakes. A passenger endorsement is also offered for those wishing to drive a bus.  The course requires 1 week of classroom instruction and approximately 4 weeks of yard and road training.  Prerequisites include passing a D.O.T. physical and drug screen and fingerprinting for bus candidates. All students must be over 18 years of age.
