Directions to Honesdale Center

Lackawanna College Serves the Region

From its start in Honesdale over 30 years ago, Lackawanna College has grown tremendously. Thanks to Lackawanna’s presence, the opportunity exists for Wayne and Pike County residents to attend college and earn a degree while still remaining at home.

And many are doing just that. During the last semester over 100 students took degree courses -- and this fall’s class is anticipated to be even larger. Clearly, a community need is being met.

Diane Puhalla serves as director of Lackawanna’s Honesdale facility. The Center is a full service operation, providing business and industry training and continuing education courses in addition to degree and certificate programs.

Lackawanna enrolls a diverse student body. To attract top students, the college provides scholarship aid to those with high SAT scores. Others arrive at the institution, however, with academic deficiencies -- and find the help they need.

The College is committed to an open admissions policy; past performance doesn’t preclude future achievement. Developmental courses to improve learning skills are provided and backed by intensive counseling and tutoring. Financial aid is available and courses are distinguished by small class size and a great deal of individual attention.

Residents can earn an associate degree in many different areas of study and smoothly advance their education and career goals. The College links to the State System of Higher Education through the Academic Passport Program which allows a Lackawanna graduate to transfer directly to one of 14 state universities as a junior, with no lost credits or wasted money.

Graduates of Lackawanna can be found in leadership positions throughout this nation -- in its banks and industries, in its classrooms and hospitals, in its courthouses and city halls. For everyone who attends, Lackawanna College specializes in opportunity.

“Lackawanna College is proud of the role it has played in serving the people of Wayne and Pike counties through the years,” said Mrs. Puhalla. “We offer very exciting educational opportunities for the residents of our area and we are delighted to see more and more people taking advantage of our programs.”

She added, “Research consistently shows that education is the key to a better life. The more years of study completed, the more an individual earns during his or her working career. Those who attain college degrees also tend to be more satisfied with the quality of their lives. Clearly, a college degree pays substantial dividends throughout the years.”

Lackawanna College’s Honesdale Center is located at 627 Main Street in Honesdale.
