Lackawanna earns Best Places to Work in PA honors for third time
SCRANTON, Pa. – Lackawanna College has been named one of the Best Places to Work in PA for 2016, marking its third consecutive honor in the awards program. Created in 2000, Best Places to Work in PA is one of the first statewide programs of its kind in the country. The program is a public/private partnership between Team Pennsylvania Foundation, the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, the Pennsylvania State Council of the Society for Human Resource Management, and the Central Penn Business Journal.
“We are exceptionally pleased to learn Lackawanna College was selected as one of the 100 Best Places to Work in PA for the third consecutive year,” Lackawanna College President Mark Volk said. “This designation says much about who we are as an institution, and it reflects the commitment of our faculty, staff, and administration to our students and to the communities we serve.”
This survey and awards program was designed to identify, recognize, and honor the best places of employment in Pennsylvania, who are benefiting the state’s economy and its workforce. Employers are categorized based upon the total number of employees they have in the United States, 25 to 249 employees and 250 or more employees.
To be considered for participation, companies had to fulfill the following eligibility requirements:
- Be a for-profit or not-for-profit business
- Be a publicly or privately held business
- Have a facility in Pennsylvania
- Have at least 25 employees working in Pennsylvania
- Be in business a minimum of one year.
Companies from across the state entered the two-part process to determine the 100 Best Places to Work in PA. The first part of this process, valued at about 25% of the total evaluation, was evaluating each nominated company’s workplace policies, practices, philosophies, systems, and demographics. The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience. The combined scores determined the top companies and the final ranking. Best Companies Group managed the overall registration and survey process.
Lackawanna College will be recognized at the Best Places to Work in PA awards banquet on Thurs., Dec. 1, 2016, at the Lancaster County Convention Center in Lancaster, Pa. Rankings will be revealed at the ceremony. Tickets may be purchased online at www.CPBJ.com/events.
In addition to the public/private partnership, the program is supported by the following organizations: Lead Sponsor—Team Pennsylvania Foundation; Presenting Sponsor – BDO, USA; Major Sponsors—Harrisburg University, PA Department of Labor and Industry, Office of Vocational Rehabilitation and Saul Ewing LLP; Selfie Sponsor – CenturyLink; Founding Partners—Team Pennsylvania Foundation and the Central Penn Business Journal; Program Partners—The Department of Community and Economic Development and PA SHRM.
