Lackawanna College partners with local business to help Hurricane Harvey relief efforts
SCRANTON, Pa. – In response to the current head men’s basketball coach at the University of Houston, Kelvin Sampson’s request for donations, The Lackawanna College Athletics Department has teamed up with Freddy Battaglia’s Sporting Goods Store in Scranton to send athletics apparel to support Hurricane Harvey victims.
Freddy Battaglia’s Sporting Good’s Store in Scranton donated 20 Lackawanna College T-shirts and eight pairs of shoes. Lackawanna College Athletics put together a donation of over 50 T-shirts, polo shirts, shoes, and bags that will be shipped to Sampson’s office to be distributed to those affected by Hurricane Harvey.
Colleges across the country have joined to support the cause.
On Aug. 28, Kelvin Sampson, University of Houston men’s basketball coach and former Indiana University basketball coach, tweeted out a request to coaches and teams around the country to donate clothes and shoes to hurricane victims.
The Houston men’s basketball team has volunteered to help distribute the collections from athletic departments across the country. So far, Division I, II, III, NAIA, junior college and high schools have pledged support.
To support survivors of Hurricane Harvey, Coach Sampson is asking for 20 T-shirts and 10 pairs of their shoes to the University of Houston. Some teams have also donated gift cards, shopping cards, and prepaid phone cards.
