HAZLETON, Pa. – Lackawanna College is renewing its commitment to the Hazleton community as it prepares to relocate its thriving Center to 2 East Broad Street in the heart of downtown Hazleton. The new facility, formerly known as the Traders Bank Building, boasts 14,277 square feet of space, offering an expansion of 4,000 more square feet than the Center’s current location. The new Center will open its doors to students in January 2018 for the start of the spring semester.

Expanding to the new location will allow the College to add dedicated classroom space for healthcare career training, a state-of-the-art Police Academy training facility, and eight classrooms to accommodate its growing student population. As part of the extensive renovation, the College will install a two-story glass-paneled concept classroom and fully-equipped computer lab.

“Lackawanna College’s relocation will provide important opportunities for higher education expansion, which has been a long-term goal of the strategic downtown revitalization plan,” said Krista L. Schneider, executive director of the Downtown Hazleton Alliance for Progress. “We are very happy that the College has decided to make this investment in downtown Hazleton, and believe it speaks to the optimism they and others have in the future of the community. We look forward to working with them as a key partner in several revitalization initiatives.”

Lackawanna College President Mark Volk said, “We are excited at the opportunity to continue the growth and impact of our Hazleton Center. This new facility will not only move us closer to the central hub of the city but will also provide our students with upgraded classroom and student-focused space. It is just one more validation of our commitment to help better the lives of our students, the city of Hazleton, and the surrounding communities.”

In addition to offering freshly renovated facilities, the new Center will provide a greater amount of parking for students than the current Center. This location is ideal for a dedicated Lackawanna presence in Hazleton for years to come, allowing the College to continue to provide quality higher education opportunities for residents of the Greater Hazleton area including portions of Luzerne, Carbon, Schuylkill, and Columbia counties.

Interested students should contact the Center at (570) 459-1573 or visit www.lackawanna.edu/hazleton for more information.
