EDM to provide free on-site education program for employees through Lackawanna College

RALEIGH, N.C. – EDM, an international leader in information management and logistics, today announced it is launching a new education initiative in partnership with Lackawanna College called EDM Academy, a pilot program launching first in the company’s Scranton location, that offers employees the opportunity to earn an associate degree as part of EDM’s ongoing employee development efforts. Through this program, eligible participants will receive their associate degree at no cost to the employee.

In continued efforts to provide access to advancement and training opportunities for its employees, EDM has partnered with Lackawanna to host night classes for 3-credit courses over nine-week terms. EDM will be testing the EDM Academy program at its Montage II location in Scranton, Pa., with the hopes of expanding the opportunity to its other locations across the country in the future.

The opportunity will be available for any employee working a minimum of 24 hours per week after completion of the 90-day introductory work period at EDM’s Scranton facility. As an added bonus, the on-site classes will be fully paid with EDM covering all class expenses, materials, and fees. The classes will be taught on-site by Lackawanna College faculty and will feature guest lectures, aligning with the program’s curriculum.

EDM will also make necessary academic tools, such as computers, available to participating employees during its hours of operation – though they are also given access to all of Lackawanna College’s amenities including its academic support services and library. In addition, Lackawanna College will offer scholarship opportunities to EDM employees who have earned their associate degree and wish to continue their education to pursue a bachelor’s degree.

“At EDM, we encourage our team to invest their time to expand their skill set, and we are committed to providing them with the resources needed to succeed in order to ensure that our employees and our company stay at the forefront of an ever-competitive market,” said Scott Byers, president and CEO of EDM Americas. “We know a degree is not inexpensive, in dollars or in time spent, and value the opportunity to partner with Lackawanna College to extend this opportunity to our employees.”

Established in 1894, Lackawanna College is a private, accredited college serving the people of Northeastern Pennsylvania through more than 30 majors and programs. The College’s main campus is located in downtown Scranton, just 10 minutes away from EDM’s Scranton site – a short drive for EDM employees. In addition to its main campus in downtown Scranton, Lackawanna College features four satellite campuses in Hazelton, Pa.; Hawley, Pa.; New Milford, Pa.; and Towanda, Pa.

“Lackawanna College has deep roots in the community, having educated our local workforce since 1894,” said Mark Volk, president of Lackawanna College. “We are proud to partner with EDM on this groundbreaking educational initiative to assist their employees in obtaining their degrees. Our goal is to provide life-changing opportunities for our students, whether they are learning in our classrooms, online, or at their place of employment.”
