Advising and Retention
The advising services provided by the faculty and staff at Lackawanna are some of the most powerful tools available to our students. The more than 40 academic advisors on campus make long-lasting connections with students to help them complete their coursework efficiently and get on the road to a career or the four-year institution of their choice.
The College’s faculty and professional staff members can advise students on selecting a major and provide crucial guidance on building a course schedule that works for them.
Advisors meet with all students at least two times a semester, but their availability helps students make the right decisions to meet their educational- and career-related goals. Students are strongly encouraged to make strong one-on-one connections with their advisors in order to get the information and direction they need to fulfill their graduation requirements. They are equipped to help students with various educational needs including:
- Schedule adjustments
- Withdrawal from a course or the College
- Change of major
- Leave of absence
- Requests for semesters in excess of 18 credits
Lackawanna’s various Retention Services help students stay focused on their classes and perform their best academically. The Retention Coordinator works with students to coordinate tutoring sessions, stays in contact with students who may be in jeopardy of failing a course, and partners with faculty members to identify issues concerning attendance or academics.
