2007 Lackawanna College Cross Country Results

Marywood Cross Country Invitational

The men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at Marywood on Saturday. The men’s team placed 5 th with a score of 140, beating Immaculata University by 2 points. That was the best finish so far for a Lackawanna Men’s XC Team. Leading the men was Sean Craig, from Honesdale, in 9 th, finishing the 8k course in 31:04—a new school record by several minutes. On the women’s side, Maria Fabrikant, the lone returning XC team member from 2006, set a school record for the women’s 6k course, 39:32 —a new distance for women at some meets.

Keystone College Cross Country Invitational

The men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at Keystone on September 8 th.  We didn’t have a full team of men; however, three men completed the very hilly, challenging course under very hot conditions. Sean Craig placed 6 th, completing the 8k (4.97mi) course in 32:30, managing to outpace 11/12 Keystone men. Andrew Welch was 27 th, and Chris Beezup placed 53rd. Vincent Jefferson sustained an injury during the race and was unable to finish. For the women, Maria Fabrikant placed 54 th and Lisa Flaherty was 60 th on a 6k (3.75mi) course.

Alfred State Cross Country Invitational

On September 15 th both teams traveled to Alfred State College, taking on several nationally ranked junior college teams. On the 2006 Division III NJCAA National Championship course, with several serious hills and fresh mud, the men compiled a team score of 81, for 4 th place--a new team low score. Finishing for the Lackawanna men were: Sean Craig, 2 nd place; Gregy Styles, 15 th place, Andrew Welch, 20 th place, Eugene Touseull, 30 th; Chris Beezup, 31 st, and Vincent Jefferson, 32 nd. Craig once again lowered the Lackawanna College men’s 8k school record, coming in at 30:29, just 15 seconds behind the winner, from Alfred State. For the women, Maria Fabrikant finished the 5k course in19th, and Lisa Flaherty was 20 th.

PSU-Worthington Cross Country Invitational

The men’s and women’s cross country teams competed this past Saturday at PSU-Worthington. While this meet was primarily between EPCC teams, including several PSU campuses, a few outside teams also attended. For the Lackawanna College men, a recent addition to the team allowed us to add another notch in the program, by putting 7 men across the finish line. Lackawanna finished 4 th/7 teams, with a score of 124. The Falcons were led on the 8k course by Sean Craig, 4 th, in 31:02. Scoring men were: Gregy Styles, 15 th, 35:09; Andrew Welch, 21 st, 36:43; Cody Opalka, 22 nd, 37:03 and Chris Beezup, 62 nd, 48:41. For the women, Maria Fabrikant finished 24 th and Lisa Flaherty was 28 th on the 5k course.
