Head Football Coach

Mark Duda has been a member of the football staff at Lackawanna College since the introduction of the sport in 1993.

After one season as defensive coordinator, Duda moved up to head coach and in those twelve years has compiled a 92-37 record while elevating the program to a position of national prominence. In this tenure at the college he has produced over 150 Division 1 Scholarship Athletes.

Under his guidance, Lackawanna has appeared in five bowl games and has been ranked nationally in recent years, highlighted by a No. 5 ranking at the end of the 2001 regular-season.  The college won four championships in five years as a Northeast Football Conference member.

One of the many beneficiaries of Duda's vast knowledge of football is Bryant McKinnie, who was selected in the first round (No. 7) of the 2002 National Football League Draft by the Minnesota Vikings.  McKinnie played at Lackawanna in 1997 and 1998 and went on to The University of Miami ( Florida) where he was the recipient of the prestigious Outland Trophy and a consensus All-American offensive lineman.

A 1979 graduate of Wyoming Valley West High School in Plymouth, PA, Duda earned a football scholarship to the University of Maryland after an outstanding career with the Spartans.  As a Maryland defensive lineman, he set a single-season school record with more than 13 sacks and ranks second in career sacks with more than 30.

Duda later starred in the National Football League, spending six seasons with the St. Louis/Phoenix Cardinals.  He was defensive line coach for two years at East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania and defensive coordinator for one year at Meyers High School in Wilkes-Barre, PA, before coming to Lackawanna.

He was inducted into the University of Maryland Wall of Fame in 1994 and a year later was inducted into the Northeastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sport Hall of Fame.  He was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Education by East Stroudsburg University in 1991. In 2005 he was awarded a Master of Arts in Professional Studies from Thomas Edison College.

After ten successful years serving as Director of Admissions at Lackawanna College Duda became the Dean of Enrollment in 2005. He also served on the coaching staff of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers entry in Arena Football League 2 in 2002.


Steve Duda
Assistant Football Coach

Came to Lackawanna College in 2002 and took over as defensive line coach, a position that had been held by his brother, Mark Duda, the head coach of the Falcons. In 2005, Duda was promoted to defensive coordinator for the Falcons. His 2005 defense was ranked 5th nationally. A product of Wyoming Valley West High School in Plymouth, PA, Steve has been an assistant football coach since 1984, either on the collegiate or high school level.  A former defensive coordinator at Wilkes University, he also was an assistant at high schools in Pennsylvania (Tunkhannock, Wyoming Valley West) and in Virginia (Osbourn).  Participated in football at Wyoming Valley West High School and Villanova University, which awarded him a Bachelor of Arts degree in History in 1995.  Is certified as a secondary education teacher.  Employed by Lackawanna as director of housing and residence.


Charles Grande
Assistant Football Coach

Has been associated with Lackawanna College's football staff since the college made its debut in the sport in 1993, first as a volunteer coach.  Handles receivers and tight ends and doubles as strength and conditioning coach.  Was assistant football coach and football strength coach three years at Carbondale Sacred Heart High School and strength coach one year at Bishop O'Hara High School, formerly Dunmore Central Catholic, and assistant wrestling coach for two years.  A 1972 graduate of Dunmore Central Catholic, where he participated in wrestling.  Participated in wrestling at Keystone College and the University of Scranton, from where he graduated in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services.  Holds Master's degrees from the University of Scranton in Rehab Counseling and Human Resources Administration.  Is a certified strength and conditioning specialist and a member of the National Strength & Conditioning Association. A resident of Old Forge, PA, he is employed as executive case manager by Intragraded Services of Wilkes-Barre, PA.


George Pachucy
Assistant Football Coach

Will be entering his sixth season as the falcon’s QB coach. A QB at the University of Delaware, he had tryouts with several N.F.L. and C.F.L. teams after college. After six seasons of semi-pro football he began his successful 20 plus year coaching career, first as an assistant and later a head coach in the high school ranks. In 2004 he was inducted in the Northeast Pa. Hall of Fame. He is the owner of Regal Room Catering, Olyphant.


Phil Angeli
Assistant Football Coach

Phil Angeli’s educational background includes a B.S.M.S in Health and Physical Education and Administrative certification in Secondary Education.

In 43 years of education he has served as a classroom teacher, coached several sports and as Dean of Students in fine area schools.

Presently retired, Phil returns to Lackawanna College for a second time, first serving under head coach, Mark Duda as offensive coordinator in 1995 the falcons were 10-1 and participated in the prestigious Golden Isle Bowl in Georgia.

As head football coach at Scranton Prep his football teams compiled a 89-47 record and claimed several division and conference championships. At

Lackawanna he will coach his favorite position- the O-Line.

Married for 42 years to the former Joan Marie Henzes, they have four children Eric, Gregg, April and Felicia and five grandchildren. He is also brother to Lackawanna College President, Ray Angeli.


Greg Miller
Defensive Backs and Safties

Coach Miller is a 2003 graduate of King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, PA., where he received a B.S. degree in Business Administration. 

4-year award winner in football playing 1 year at Defensive End and 3 years at Linebacker. Helped the team to achieving its best success in football during the modern day era.  During those years, King’s was successful in winning two ECAC post-season championships as well as winning the Middle Atlantic Conference title in 2003 with an eventual berth in the Division 3 National Playoffs.

Received numerous opportunities with various Arena League and Canadian Football League teams following college in addition to playing one year of semi-professional football.

Received most valuable player honors while playing in the semi-pro national championship game at Middle Linebacker for the Northern Tier Bruins in 2004.

Was also assistant defensive coach for two years with Wyoming Seminary Preparatory School in Kingston, PA. responsible for linebackers and defensive backfield personnel.


Kyle Gregory
Assistant Football Coach

Coach Gregory will be starting his first season with Lackawanna College. He began coaching in spring of 2008 as the offensive line coach working with Phil Angeli. Coach Gregory has been hired as the offensive line coach, recruiting coordinator, and assistant to the strength and conditioning coordinator for this upcoming season.

As a player, Coach Gregory was all region and all conference as well as being a four sport lettermen for Union High School, Union, South Carolina where he graduated in 1998; from there he went to Fork Union Military Academy as a post graduate at the prep school where he started as defensive tackle. Wanting to continue with football as well as school Coach Gregory was recruited by Lackawanna College where he graduated with an Associates Degree in 2001. As a player for Coach Duda he started at left tackle as well as handling the long snapping duties for both years. His sophomore year the team had a perfect season record winning the NFC Championship as wells as bid to play in the Golden Isles Bowl in Georgia.

After graduating Coach Gregory was recruited and signed with the University of South Carolina under Head Coach Lou Holtz. After a year with the Gamecocks he was seriously injured with a back injury; Coach Holtz’s staff hired him soon after, Coach Gregory worked with Coach Holtz for four years. After Coach Holtz resigned from the position Coach Gregory stayed under present Head Coach Steve Spurrier and his staff for one year.
