With a 3-0 win over Passaic County Community College and another 3-0 shutout of the Union County College, the Lackawanna College Volleyball Team has bounced back from a 1-3 start to even their win-loss record at 3-3. This Thursday they travel to Harcum College in an attempt to better their record in a pivotal Region XIX matchup. A win by the Falcons will force a playoff with the Harcum for the Region 19 Championship, and the right to host the NJCAA District L Tournament.
In commenting on her team's chances, first-year coach Meghan Fuller stated that, “There is no question that Kellyn Nolan (Western Wayne) is the team's overall most dominant player”. “However!” She added, “I don't believe we would be playing as well as we are; or even thinking of winning the Region Championship, if it weren't for Meghan Scott and my two softball players”.
In regards to Scott, a North Pocono graduate, Fuller points out that in last weeks 3-0 shutout of Passaic County, Scott had 17 kills on 21 attempts, a kill to attempt ratio of 81%. Fuller said, “She was scoring a little more than three points for every four time she touched the ball”. In addition, she leads the team in digs with 23 and was trailing Nolan in aces by one and (Nolan-eight, Scott-seven)
In making a reference to her softball players, Fuller was referring to her sophomores, Nancy Lydon, (Valley View), and Kasie O’Dell, (Forest City). Both are participating in volleyball at Lackawanna for the first time this year. However each has found a niche in the team's success by concentrating their efforts on setting up their teammates. Lydon leads the team in assists with 35, closely followed by the O’Dell with her 33 assists. To illustrate how dominant these two have been in this statistical category, the next highest total would be Sofia Carovinci’s , (Valley View) with 10 assists.
