Tuition
In order to facilitate planning and budgeting for college expenses, Lackawanna College provides a flat tuition schedule for all full-time students. By doing so, the College makes it possible for students and their parents to know in advance exactly what the cost of acquiring an associate degree will be.
A full-time student is defined as an individual who is taking 12 or more degree credits in a semester. Under Lackawanna College's flat tuition schedule, a full-time student may take anywhere from 12 to 18 credits per semester for the same fee. This option permits students to arrange their schedules in a manner that best fits their educational needs. The flat tuition schedule applies only to the Fall and Spring semesters.
For the Fall 2008 and Spring 2009 semesters, Lackawanna's flat tuition is $5200 per semester.
Individuals who take less than 12 credits per semester are classified as part-time students. Their tuition is assessed on a per credit basis. For the Fall 2008 and Spring 2009 semesters, Lackawanna's per credit rate for part-time students is $350 per credit. Intersession and Summer semesters are billed at the same $350 per credit rate.
Lackawanna College requires each student to amass 62 credits to qualify for an associate degree. Most full-time students can readily earn those credits over a two-year period. Credits are accumulated by successfully completing 20 three-credit degree courses and 2 one-credit self-development courses. All students participate in a basic core curriculum, with each major concentration requiring specific additional courses to earn that degree.
Students who are required to undertake multiple developmental education courses at the beginning of their college program may not take more than 15 credit hours in that initial semester. If they successfully compile a grade point average of 3.0 or better after the completion of 15 credits, they may then take additional credits.
Full-time students are eligible for the maximum amount of financial aid assistance from the federal and state governments. The specific economic status of students and/or their families determines the total amount of financial aid assistance to be awarded.
