LOCAL GOVERNMENT ACADEMY - BOCA
Lackawanna College is offering a series of courses through its Local Government Academy which provide an overall understanding of the International Building Code 2000. Practical instruction in their application and enforcement. With a prevailing movement in Pennsylvania and throughout the nation toward uniform utilization of the codes, these courses are essential to anyone currently involved in municipal building enforcement or in the construction industry as well as architects and those seeking a career in code enforcement.
Courses will be held at Lackawanna College's main campus at 501 Vine Street, Scranton, Pa. 18509
Participants can expect to obtain a knowledge of and familiarity with the fundamental concepts of the residential building codes and code enforcement. They will learn how to utilize code books to reach information needed for specific situations. Also the uniform construction code act will be introduced.
Course content can serve as an introduction for
those who are new to the field or as a refresher and
update for those with experience. The information
obtained will serve as a foundation on which to build higher levels of knowledge and skills through on the job training and additional course work.
William J. Howard is a licensed Highrise-Hazardous Structures Building Inspector. He is a retired construction official in the State of New Jersey, and is presently the President of the National Training Institute, whose primary office is located in Feasterville, Pa.
