This two-part course is designed to provide education majors with a forum for enhancing their skills in the area of writing, reading, math, speech, and test-taking strategies. Emphasis will be on preparation for the PRAXIS exams (0 Credits)

EDU 110 - Introduction to Prof of Education
This course is designed to explore the background and development of education, and to examine how this historical development has affected the various types of current educational programs, trends, issues and ethical considerations. The development of specialized branches of education, such as early learning and special education, will also be explored. Through this course, students will experience a comprehensive introduction to the field of Education (3 Credits).

EDU 115 - Objectives, Assessment, Curriculum
Linking assessment to objectives, using diverse assessment methods to express learning more comprehensively, and ensuring assessments that are appropriate to the developmental level and learning styles of students is crucial in authentic determination of progress. This course offers opportunities for educators to develop in-depth knowledge and skills through research, policy, and best practices in assessment, curriculum planning, and program evaluation (3 Credits).

EDU 120 - Development I
This course is designed to explore the development of the whole child from the pre-natal stage through pre-adolescence. Focus includes the study of the historical beliefs about child rearing as well as current parenting styles and practices, the various theories of development, the formation and stabilization of the personality, the assessment of the child and his/her environment, developmentally appropriate standards-based curriculum, and health and safety issues (3 Credits)

EDU 130 - Development II
Considering psychological and educational implications, this course immerses students in developmental theories and processes; physical, cognitive, communicative and linguistic development; and variance in social, emotional, economic and cultural contexts for adolescence and beyond. Focusing on children or adolescents within their preferred certification level, students will examine the effect of human development on teaching methods, learning principles, and evaluation systems for a broad range of ability levels and learning styles. (3 Credits)

EDU 200 - Inclusive Ed & Technology
Inclusive education (i.e., the elimination of special education as a separate classroom in isolation from the mainstream of the education process) poses a significant challenge to educational leaders of the 21st century. This course provides teachers with new teaching practices that weave technology into a curriculum in which students, both regular and those with special needs, can interact in a technologically-supportive environment. This two-part course explores strategies for inclusive best practices, for incorporating technology in meaningful ways, and then for considering the relationship between both of these components. (3 Credits)

EDU 205 - Methods and Materials
This course is designed to bridge theory and practice, creating an opportunity for students to relate critical methods in ECE to the design and creation of learning materials appropriate for young children. All areas of the ECE curriculum are addressed, emphasizing the structuring of the environment as a significant factor in the progressive growth and development of young children (3 Credits).

EDU 210 - Classroom Management
Students will examine and evaluate developmentally appropriate best practices of effective classroom management with emphasis on behavioral norms and differences, physical space and organization, safety, time and work management, and modification of materials, activities and environments to support exceptional and ELL children. Student motivation, positive student-teacher relationships, parent partnerships, and planning and implementation techniques will be explored as a means to minimizing behavior problems and establishing a productive and responsible classroom climate. (3 Credits)

EDU 215 - Language, Literacy & Play
Students learn and evaluate current children’s literature. Students study the nature of children’s literature and how current literature for children compares with classic works. In addition, methods of introducing literature in environments for young children will be explored (3 Credits). (New)
