    Green Technologies

    The Lackawanna College Environmental Education Center is a Gold LEED-Certified facility for its use of a wide range of recycled materials and alternative energy sources including:

    • Wind turbine
    • Solar photovoltaic array
    • Geothermal heating and cooling system built using eight 400 foot deep wells
    • Exterior down lighting to reduce sky-glow and light pollution off of site
    • Pervious driveway and parking areas
    • Bio-swales to collect storm water run-off
    • Site restoration after construction including native grasses and plants
    • Recycled materials including steel siding, roofing, aluminum window frames, and more used in construction
    • Reclaimed wood floors, baseboard, and reception desk
    • Lighting controlled by occupancy and daylight sensors
    • High efficiency, long-lasting LED ceiling lights
    • Low Volatile Organic Compounds paint
    • High performance windows that reduce solar heat gain
    • Low flow sink faucets and toilets
    • Reclaimed grey water from marsh machine used for toilet and urinal flush water

    Construction at the Lackawanna College Environmental Education Center was completed by hemmler + camayd architects in Scranton, Pa.
